Frequently asked questions about natural stone

What is Altissima?

Altissima is XTONE’s range dedicated to large-format natural stone. It brings together a selection of marbles, granites, quartzites and other natural stones designed for architectural, interior design, kitchen, bathroom, furniture and contract projects.

Each Altissima slab is unique due to its natural origin, its veining, its colour and its mineral structure. This uniqueness allows for the creation of surfaces with a truly one-of-a-kind aesthetic, whilst maintaining XTONE’s technical, logistical and specification support.

In what formats and thicknesses is Altissima available?

Altissima is available in large-format natural stone slabs, with dimensions varying according to the type of stone, the block of origin and the stock available at any given time. Unlike XTONE porcelain tiles, which come in defined industrial formats, each Altissima slab must be checked individually in the Library or on the relevant real-time stock platform.

As a general rule, Altissima natural stone is supplied in a thickness of 2 cm, although certain materials or blocks may be available in 3 cm. Before finalising a project, it is recommended that you confirm the exact size, thickness, finish, availability and number of slabs with the sales team or the Library centre.

Why choose Altissima for a project?

Altissima brings the authenticity of natural stone into the XTONE ecosystem. It is a solution particularly suited to projects seeking exclusivity, aesthetic depth and fine materials with their own distinct character.

Its main appeal lies in the uniqueness of each slab: no two pieces are exactly alike. This makes Altissima a suitable choice for premium worktops, high-end bathrooms, tables, decorative cladding, contract spaces and residential projects where natural materials are an essential part of the design.

In which finishes is Altissima available?

Altissima may be available in different finishes depending on the stone selected and the block available. The most common finishes are polished, honed, leather, sandblasted, hydrofinish and textured, although not all materials are suitable for all finishes.

The polished finish offers a glossy, reflective surface that intensifies the colour and depth of the veining. The honed finish has a matt, smooth and more understated surface. The leather finish provides a tactile texture, with a more natural and less reflective appearance. The sandblasted finish creates a matt, slightly rough surface using sandblasting. Hydrofinish provides a texture achieved through a combination of water and mechanical processing to enhance the stone’s natural relief. Textured finishes offer greater surface character and should be selected according to the intended use, expected cleaning requirements and the conditions of the project.

Where can Altissima be used?

Altissima can be used for worktops, bathrooms, wall cladding, flooring, tables, furniture, fireplaces and unique pieces, provided that the selected stone is suitable for the intended use.

As this is natural stone, each material must be specified according to its technical characteristics: hardness, water absorption, porosity, stain resistance, sensitivity to acids and whether it is intended for indoor or outdoor use. Before finalising a project using Altissima, it is recommended that you consult the stone’s technical data sheet and seek advice from the XTONE team or a specialist stonemason.

Where can I check the stock of Altissima natural stone?

Altissima’s stock levels should be checked at Library centres or via the real-time stock tools available to professionals. With natural stone, it is not enough simply to choose the material’s trade name: you must select the specific slab you wish to use.

The same stone model may exhibit significant variations in colour, veining, pattern, intensity or mineral structure between different blocks and even between slabs from the same block. Therefore, for worktops, tables, cladding, bathrooms or contract projects, we recommend reviewing up-to-date images, selecting the exact slabs and reserving the material before proceeding with cutting or processing.

Is bookmatch available for Altissima natural stone?

Yes. With certain Altissima materials, there may be a bookmatch pattern or visual continuity between slabs. In natural stone, the bookmatch depends on the original block and the sequential cutting of the slabs: the pieces are cut consecutively from the same block and can be laid out visually like the pages of a book to create a mirrored pattern.

Altissima is sold in bundles or packs of slabs that usually maintain a relationship between consecutive pieces from the same block. This continuity allows for the creation of designs for walls, bathrooms, tables, worktops, fireplaces or bespoke projects. Before specifying a bookmatch, it is essential to examine the specific slabs, confirm their numbering within the bundle, check the grain direction and coordinate the cutting plan with the stonemason or fabricator.

What sets Altissima apart from XTONE porcelain tiles?

XTONE porcelain tiles and Altissima cater to different needs within the world of large-format surfaces. XTONE porcelain stoneware is an industrially manufactured technical surface, offering high strength, low water absorption and excellent aesthetic stability. Altissima, on the other hand, is selected natural stone, with variations inherent to each block and a beauty directly linked to the material’s geological origin.

The choice between XTONE and Altissima depends on the type of project, the application, the expected level of maintenance and the desired aesthetic result. Altissima offers authenticity, exclusivity and natural value; XTONE offers technical performance, consistency and greater ease of maintenance.
